My daughter sent me a link to a Japanese phenomenon known as “sampuru”. It is almost an art form in itself.

The link is as follows:

Sampuru is the Japanese depiction by models of food items sold by restaurants. Begun in the 1920’s as a means of attracting customers who were not familiar with menus, the custom became more extensive after WW2 when Americans and Europeans were even more unfamiliar with Japanese menus. Restaurants displayed what was offer inside by having mock ups outside. Since then the models have become so real that they are easily mistaken for the real thing.

Some people who know about these things have suggested that kissing may have originated when mothers orally passed chewed solid food to their infants during weaning.

Throughout history food and sex have been linked. Some cultures view the apple as a feminine symbol in that an apple cut in half resembles the female genitalia, giving a new slant on Eve offering fruit of the Tree of Knowledge to Adam . . .

I love anchovies, Kate hates them. It may therefore be interesting to know that Worcestershire sauce is made from dissolved anchovies (including the bones) that have been soaked in vinegar.
